Berlin Black.

Berlin Black.

In the words of our Co-Founders, David and Stephanie.

“There is a freedom to Berlin that’s difficult to explain properly unless you’ve spent time here. I like the mix of things here. It can feel quite raw and industrial in places, but also creative and warm at the same time. You can feel the history everywhere, but it never feels stuck in the past.”

To mark five years of our Partnership Store in Berlin, we are excited to revisit Berlin Black, a special capsule collection available exclusively through our Universal Works Partnership Store.

The idea for Berlin Black came from time spent in the city itself. Every visit reminded us of something simple but striking; black is everywhere. Not as a uniform, but as a shared thread running through many different corners of Berlin life. From skateboarders and musicians to artists, designers and those who simply get on with their day, black seems to be the colour people return to again and again.

A collection of moments captured during our trips to Berlin over the years, some of which were previously exhibited as part of our last Berlin Black launch.

For us, that choice feels connected to the character of the city. Berlin has long been a place of independent thinking and creative expression, shaped by its history but never defined by it. There is a confidence and freedom here that allows people to be themselves, and black has become part of that visual language. It can be understated or bold, practical or expressive, depending entirely on the person wearing it.

Berlin Black is our way of acknowledging and celebrating that spirit. Rather than producing a collection built around colour, we wanted to explore the depth and variety that can exist within black itself. The capsule combines two distinct fabrics, creating subtle contrast, texture and character while remaining entirely monochrome. It is a simple idea, but one that reflects the city that inspired it.

More than anything, this collection is an homage to Berlin, a city we have grown to love through our years here. Its creativity, openness and sense of possibility continue to inspire us, and Berlin Black is our small way of recognising that connection.
