For us, things worth wearing are worth repairing. Which is why we offer our Re-Works service: visible and invisible repairs that give your much-loved UW piece a second chance.

These are Patrick’s Double Pleat pants. They haven’t given up after eight years of wear, so we weren’t about to give up on them.

We took them to Gay, our Re-Works partner in Nottingham (we also work with Janelle, our partner for our London stores), to carefully assess any wear and tear, and see how she could bring them back to life. Here’s how she did it.

Hems repaired.

The hems were frayed, which can happen from rubbing against your shoes. Gay unpicked the old stitching and let down each leg, then trimmed the loose threads, reinforced any holes from the inside, then stitched them back up.

Darning the holes.

The seat of the trousers, often a place that gets heavy wear, had worn away at the seam, which can be more difficult to repair. Gay darned the hole with matching thread over a small backing patch inside, to mimic the existing fabric and make sure the repair was as subtle as possible.

Pockets reinforced.

The edges on the pockets were worn through years of use. To sort this out, Gay re-bound the pockets, for strength, longevity and to give them their shape back.

A new button.

A new button is a simple fix that easily lifts the trousers and finished the process off. If this step is all your own trousers need, this is easy to do yourself by following our tutorial here.

There you have it, the same trousers, with careful work done properly to bring them back to life.

See how we revamped Patrick’s Wool Fleece Jacket on the Wool Fleece valet, which might inspire you to give yours some TLC too.
