Good People, Good Places. Retrofutur, Lyon.
“People in Lyon still value knowledge, taste and spaces built around genuine passion, rather than just trends. That says a lot about the city.”—Guz, Dope Store.
As we get ready to open the doors of UW Lyon, the team at Dope Store have been introducing us to some of the people and businesses that make the city special. Previously, we visited Les Lunettes de Marius, and below, we spotlight Retrofutur, founded by four audiophiles and friends that stocks everything you might need to enhance your listening experience.

Retrofutur was built by people who live and breathe music, and it shows. New technology sits alongside retro finds, while every corner of the store is dedicated to the art of listening. Speakers, turntables, CD and cassette players, hi-fi systems, radios and music accessories fill the space, with an entire wall devoted to headphones ready to be tried and tested.

They tell us there was a conscious effort to challenge the conventions of a traditional audio store. Rather than a space that feels dark, cluttered or intimidating, they set out to create one that is bright, calm and thoughtfully curated. The intention was to echo the performance, materials and design of the products themselves, displaying their items against typically industrial materials like wood, leather and concrete.

As Guz from Dope puts it: “They are not trying to be for everyone. The store has a real point of view, and real expertise.”
That expertise has helped turn Retrofutur into more than just a shop. For audiophiles, it is a destination. People travel from far and wide to swap hi-fi stories, customise turntables and restore treasured equipment. It is proof that following your passion and trusting your experience can create something extraordinary.

In a world increasingly dominated by algorithms, convenience and a growing “sameness”, Retrofutur stands apart. It shows what happens when knowledge, a clear vision and a love for the subject matter are given space to grow.
