Good People, Good Places. Les Lunettes de Marius, Lyon.

This autumn, we will be opening the doors to our Lyon Partnership Store, created with Dope Store, a long-time stockist in the area. We asked the Dope team to show us around our new neighbourhood, and introduce us to some of their favourite local businesses and the people behind them; the Good People and Good Places that make this corner of Lyon what it is.

Previously, they took us to Sofa Records, and this time, we explore Les Lunettes de Marius, an eyewear store and optician filled with beautiful glasses and a beautiful interior to match.

Les Lunettes de Marius was founded 14 years ago by two friends, Boris and Nina, to bring a curated selection of premium eyewear from the very best makers across the world. There is a clear focus on the importance of the in-store experience, and of the interior reflecting the craftsmanship of the glasses themselves.

The decor is a thoughtful mix of antique finds and bespoke modern pieces, with purpose-built display cases and warm lighting that feels welcoming, rather than the harsh lighting you might usually find in an opticians. Adding to the atmosphere is the curated choice of background music, and a tea and coffee menu worthy of a high-end cafe. Even the scent of the store is considered, with hand-picked incense always lit and every purchase sent on its way in a tote bag spritzed with eau de toilette.

That personal touch can always be felt, whether it is advice on a new Japanese frame or a careful repair or adjustment to a style bought previously.

Guz from Dope sums up what makes this store special; “People are looking for something more personal and more meaningful. Not necessarily luxury in the obvious sense, but something with a story, a point of view and a human hand behind it.”
