Good People, Good Places. Glasswing, Seattle.

“After a certain point, people stop consuming what’s available and start co-creating what’s missing.”

The Good People in the Good Places that stock Universal Works across the globe.

Seattle-based Glasswing is so much more than a clothing store. In addition to their curated selection of homewares and art, they offer commercial plant design, installation, and maintenance services, and regularly host events and workshops. Beyond the city, Glasswing also have three mid-century–inspired rental cabins, @canyoncreekcabins, offering people a way to gather and connect with nature in the Cascade Mountains.

"The drama of this landscape balances the pressures of the city. That duality between city and nature, land and sea, light and darkness is woven into daily life here.”—Glasswing Co-Owner Forest Eckley.

Drawn to our “modern wardrobe staples that feel equally at home in the city or in the mountains”, they have been Universal Works stockists since they started in 2013, growing alongside us which has been amazing to see. Our Co-Founders even spent some time at their cabins back in 2018 alongside the launch of a pop-up we held in their store.

Forest tells us, “We’re constantly in conversations about what feels exciting or useful. Our customers and friends have great taste, and we’re always listening to what’s inspiring them. We love exploring other shops when we travel, for us it’s a chance to step into someone else’s world. The best relationships usually form through shared values and a mutual appreciation for materials, craftsmanship and creativity.”

The common thread that links so many of our stockists is that sense of community. Forest sums it up: “Living in the city, we’re all in such close proximity to each other, and after a certain point, people stop consuming what’s available and start co-creating what’s missing. That is how Glasswing started, and we often highlight or collaborate with others who are bringing people together in new ways.”

On this note, we asked Forest to choose his “UW people”, seen alongside the Glasswing team in the photos. He introduced us to Suli and Marc, owners of Café Suliman and Cantina Sauvage, a restaurant and wine bar who share a space next door to Glasswing.

Marc and Suli elaborate, “What started with a hello and a handshake with our sweet neighbours quickly folded into a relationship that feels more like family. Our communities celebrate each other, and because of it, our businesses flourish and continue to grow.”

So here is to bringing people together through whichever means we can, and to switching off every once in a while—whether that is through styling a new jacket, tending to your house plants, or an off-grid couple of days in a woodland cabin.
