Well-made Stories. The Continuous Wardrobe.

“Whenever I see a new Universal Works collection hanging together for the first time, I always think it could sit alongside our very first and still feel like part of the same story.”—David Keyte, UW Co-Founder.

Here, the team style their new picks from AW25.

When designing our collections, really we are just adding to one big wardrobe. The pieces you might already own, work with the first, the latest and the next collection.

We invited long-time UW customers, Jonathan, Oliver and George, part of the team at Beam Editions, a bookshop, art gallery, coffee shop and a bakery (you might recognise Oliver from our previous Worn In, Not Worn Out story, where he spoke about his worn-in UW pieces, complete with repairs), to bring along their UW favourites. Previously purchased items they wear and love, styled with our current winter collection.

While choosing their new purchases, we chatted about the pieces they bought along, their approach to their own wardrobes, and how they balance looking for something new to wear with their cherished older pieces.

Jonathan explains why he keeps coming back to certain styles: “For people of different shapes and sizes, the cut is so important, and the consistency of that. And having these in good fabrics that wear well can bring longevity.” He adds, “The choice that I always try to make is; do I need it? Does it fit with what I've already got? It's far more enjoyable to get something new when you actually need it. If you have quality things you don’t have the craving to replace them.”

An Italian Wool jacket George bought from our Broad Street store in Nottingham, is “infinitely versatile. For the most part, it’s brilliant at the everyday. It is one of the first experiences I’ve had of clothing that actually lasts.”

Oliver meanwhile homes in on his favourite indigo jacket bought over a decade ago at one of our sample sales, which has now faded to lilac with the sun. “It’s seen a lot of action, it’s frayed at the cuffs, it’s had a few repairs, it’s patched, but I love it!”
