TAION x Universal Works. Ten Years of TAION Anniversary Special.

What makes a “special”, special? In this case, when something is only available in Japan and made especially to mark a 10 year birthday.

On our visit to TAION’S HQ in Osaka, Japan, they asked if we would work with them on a “special” for a pop up store held in Tokyo to mark their anniversary. Well, how could we say no?

When creating our collaboration together, they had fallen in love with our take on the traditional M51 Fishtail Parka, so we agreed to work on that as the starting point to this piece too. Given the cold days we knew were coming for the Japanese capital in winter, we looked for the perfect reverse for the heavier-weight nylon than we had used in the rest of the collaboration. And so the Japanese “special” was born, a fleece-lined Parka that takes TAION’S technical down-wear base, this time adding a black, tactile, long-fibre fleece on the reverse.

Our Co-Founder, David Keyte, explains the idea:

“We made a kind of cosy version of our collaboration parka. The original version has our signature trompe l’oeil tweed print, and for their anniversary special, we went for a warmer, almost fluffy side. Perfect for those cold Japan winters. We are very happy with what we created together.”
